Everytime my computer freezes, after a while, I hear the Hard drives spin up again, like some of them were turned off. I don't want to insult intelligence but especially on custom builds.įinally, I personally believe the freezing issues to be related to hard drives. Balance the Load on the PSU or check at least to make sure it is. Stupid in hindsight I know, especially seeing as my PSU has a modular layout giving 4 12V rails. I have a stable expensive PSU to handle my components but loaded all of my HDDs onto one rail. Skype freezing up alot when in compact view Pc#Power distribution has caused instability in my PC before. See if you can find the manufacturers drivers. Skype freezing up alot when in compact view install#Vista will usually install its own drivers for your motherboards automatically, but a quick look in the driver details might reveal that they are microsofts own drivers. Skype freezing up alot when in compact view download#Saying that, some BIOS have been released which will help to add compatibility and efficiency within Vista.Īnother possiblity is to download new drivers. Flashing the BIOS can destroy a motherboard if its the wrong one or fails to flash correctly. Make sure you know what you are doing, back up your data first and ensure that you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. I won't accept responsibility if you do take it onyourself to flash your BIOSs though. FoxConn owners especially as I knbow that updates have been received. If the motherboard is older (I mean over 6 months btw) or you are using a Dual Core, have a look at the manufacturers web site for updated BIOSs. Here are some ideas to try and some ideas from other forums: I also use a FoxConn MB which is known to cause some of these freezing issues. Heat is not a problem however it did blue screen once due to a power distribution issue.more on that later. Skype freezing up alot when in compact view windows#They are all SATA and I spread my programs, music, windows installs and games across various HDDs. At the same time, I have 4 hard drives int he PC and occasionally an external. If I leave the PC while it has frozen, more often than not, it will sort itself out after around 5 minutes. I have the same problem with a slight variation. I know that the thread is a little old now but here we go: I'm wondering since my hard-drive is being accessed when the PC is locked up if this indicates the built-in desktop search feature is running? Could this be the culprit? Unfortunately, no matter what I do, I can't change it to one of the other options and have to wait the 30 seconds until Vista starts in normal mode. The default is to start Vista normally with the countdown seconds displayed next to it. The funny thing is, when Vista starts after the hard re-boot, I get the screen saying that Vista was not shut down properly and to choose from the following options, etc. The hard-disk access light just keeps going and I've waited up to 15 minutes with no satisfactory results, necessitating a hard re-boot. I've tapped the keys and moved my mouse and even tried unplugging some USB devices, all to no avail. However, I have noticed that my hard-disk access light is flickering on and off rapidly when the PC is not responsive, indicating that some kind of activity is going on. I can't figure out what causes this to happen. Sometimes - not always - my PC will lock up when the screensaver is on. Ok, I'm having the same problem with Vista Ultimate. It now seems to work just fine! I've got to put in a good plug for Gateway's customer support. Finally (this seems to be what did the trick), we went into MSCONFIG, deactivated everything, and I read each item to Gateway tech support, who told me what to check and what not to check (basically, anything with Microsoft, Intel, or our Virus Scan/Firewall programs were allowed to remain, everything else was deactivated). As mentioned before, we pulled the memory out to ensure not static charge. We tried rolling back to an earlier recovery point. Most users propobly don't know those tools exist. This didn't solve my problem, but may help you. Run windows recovery utilities in right after BIOS loads (on a gateway, it's F8 right after starting the PC). Gateway customer service asked me to do the following: VISTA FREEZE PROBLEM SOLVED! I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I'll give all the steps I was given and what eventually worked.
